Arsenal Close to Signing Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia

Arsenal’s Pursuit of Cristhian Mosquera

Arsenal is nearing a deal to acquire Cristhian Mosquera, the young centre-back from Valencia. The 21-year-old has reportedly agreed to personal terms, and discussions between the two clubs are advancing toward a final agreement. This move comes as part of Arsenal’s strategy to bolster their defense, which has been a primary focus during this summer’s transfer window.

Summer Transfer Activity

The Gunners have already made significant strides in the market this summer, adding midfielders Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and Christian Norgaard from Brentford, as well as goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who joins from Chelsea. Further enhancing their squad, Arsenal has also secured a deal for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke and has reached an initial agreement to bring in Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP for a total of €73.5 million.

Player Performance and Squad Depth

Last season, Mosquera showcased his skills with 41 appearances for Valencia, where he participated in 37 La Liga matches and represented Spain in three games during the under-21 European Championship this summer. Arsenal views him as a perfect addition to provide depth behind their first-choice central defenders, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba.

While the duo played a key role last season with 51 and 42 appearances respectively, the Gunners also considered other defensive options, including Dean Huijsen, who recently transferred from Bournemouth to Real Madrid. Arsenal’s defense is further supported by players Jakub Kiwior, Jurrien Timber, Ben White, and Riccardo Calafiori.

Injury Concerns

It’s worth noting that Takehiro Tomiyasu, who struggled with injuries last season, made only one appearance due to ongoing knee problems and departed the club by mutual consent in July, heightening the need for Arsenal to strengthen their defensive lineup.
