Argentina vs. Puerto Rico Match Relocation
In a significant change of plans, the upcoming friendly soccer match between Argentina and Puerto Rico has been moved from Chicago to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Originally set to take place on October 13 at Soldier Field, the game will now be hosted at Chase Stadium, home of Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, as confirmed by sources from ESPN and the Argentine Football Association (AFA).
Reasons for Relocation
The decision to relocate stems from heightened unrest in Chicago related to an ongoing immigration crackdown, which has led to the deployment of the National Guard by the Trump administration to manage protests in the area. Since last month, over 1,000 individuals have been arrested as authorities intensify their efforts to enforce immigration laws.
An official from the AFA, speaking to the Associated Press under the condition of anonymity prior to the public announcement, indicated that the shift was a necessary measure given the current circumstances in Chicago.
Argentina’s Upcoming Matches
Argentina, fresh off their triumph as World Cup champions, is gearing up for additional international play, including a friendly against Venezuela scheduled for this Friday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Messi, who has been selected to compete in both matches, is a crucial part of Argentina’s strategy as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
Furthermore, Inter Miami is set to play its second-to-last game of the MLS season this Saturday against Atlanta at Chase Stadium.
