Anze Kopitar Clinches Second Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, Highlighting Sportsmanship and Skill

Anze Kopitar Wins 2025 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy

The NHL has officially recognized Anze Kopitar, the skilled center for the Los Angeles Kings, as the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. This accolade honors players who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship alongside exceptional skill on the ice.

This announcement was made on Thursday, and with this win, Kopitar has solidified his reputation by claiming the award for the second time, having first won it in 2016.

Only Wayne Gretzky has matched his achievement within the Kings franchise.

Standout Performance This Season

At 37 years old, Kopitar delivered a standout performance this season, amassing 46 assists to lead the Kings and notching 67 points—second only to teammate Adrian Kempe. Impressively, this marks the 16th occasion in Kopitar’s 19-year career where he has surpassed the 60-point milestone, underscoring his consistent contribution to the team.

Exceptional Discipline and Contributions

A vital player for the Kings, Kopitar excelled not only during even-strength play but also in both special teams scenarios, all while maintaining remarkable discipline, receiving only two penalties throughout the entire season. His total of four penalty minutes this season is among the lowest he has ever recorded, with his first penalty occurring only on January 1, 37 games in.

Additional Achievements

In addition to his recent accolade, Kopitar is a two-time recipient of the Selke Trophy, awarded for his defensive prowess in 2016 and 2018, and he also earned the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2022.

As the NHL prepares to reveal other major award winners later tonight, including the Trophy and the Vezina Trophy, Kopitar’s recognition emphasizes his respected status within the league.
