Anthony Stolarz Aims to Finalize Contract Prior to Maple Leafs’ Season Opener

Stolarz Eager to Finalize Contract with Maple Leafs

As the new season approaches, goaltender Anthony Stolarz is eager to finalize his contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs before the regular season kicks off on October 8. Following the first training camp session, Stolarz expressed his intent to shift his focus entirely to the game itself, leaving contract negotiations to his agent and General Manager Brad Treliving.

“I want to be fully committed to winning the Stanley Cup as soon as the season commences,” the 31-year-old remarked. “I’m hopeful we can reach an agreement shortly.”

Last season proved to be the pinnacle of Stolarz’s career in the NHL, where he participated in 43 games—his highest in any single season—achieving 21 victories and recording an impressive save percentage of .926.

Challenges and Optimism

Stolarz dealt with some setbacks during his time with the Maple Leafs, contending with knee surgery mid-season and suffering a concussion in the second round of the playoffs against the Florida Panthers. Treliving, during Wednesday’s media day, expressed optimism about proceeding with contract discussions.

“We’ve had conversations with Anthony and his team,” Treliving stated. “It’s important that the arrangement works for both sides. I’m positive we can reach a satisfactory agreement soon.”

Additionally, the goaltender reflected on the motivation stemming from the playoff loss to the Panthers in May, stating that it spurred him to enhance his physical abilities over the summer.

“I focused on improving my foot speed, conditioning, and angles. I can’t wait to get back out there and build on my performance from last year,” he said while emphasizing his desire to concentrate solely on his role on the team without distractions.

Training Camp and Upcoming Season

Amidst these developments, the Maple Leafs have announced their 2025 training camp roster, featuring a total of 73 players, including 44 forwards, 23 defensemen, and six goaltenders, with practices commencing on September 18 and the first pre-season match set against the Ottawa Senators on September 21. Stolarz is patiently awaiting updates from his agent on the contract front, while he dedicates himself to preparing for the upcoming season.
