Ange Postecoglou takes the helm at Nottingham Forest after Nuno Espirito Santo’s departure

Nottingham Forest Appoints Ange Postecoglou as New Manager

In a significant move for the club, Nottingham Forest has secured Ange Postecoglou as their new manager, according to reports from ESPN. Postecoglou takes over from Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed from his managerial role following a mere three matches into the current season. The Australian coach has inked a contract that will keep him with Forest until June 2027.

Postecoglou’s Management Background

This appointment marks Postecoglou’s return to management after he was let go from Tottenham Hotspur in June. During his time with Spurs, he had a mixed record, finishing fifth in the Premier League in the 2023-24 season and achieving notable success by winning the UEFA Europa League—a title that had eluded the club for 17 years—following a victory against Manchester United in the final.

Despite this accomplishment, Postecoglou’s tenure at Tottenham ended shortly after the Europa League win, as he was relieved of his duties just 16 days later.

Prior to his stint in north London, Postecoglou garnered a wealth of experience in the sport, having managed various teams in Australia, led the Socceroos from 2013 to 2017, and found success in Japan with Yokohama F. Marinos. His most recent achievement was with Celtic, where he won multiple titles before moving to Tottenham.

Nuno’s Departure and Club Dynamics

Nuno’s exit from Nottingham Forest followed a difficult start to the season, with tensions growing between him and the club’s hierarchy, particularly with head of global football Edu Gaspar. Their relationship appeared increasingly strained after a new three-year contract was signed in June. Doubts about Nuno’s standing intensified when he admitted to being “not close” with club owner Evangelos Marinakis, stating that their relationship was evolving.

Last season, Nuno had led Forest to an impressive seventh place in the Premier League, marking the club’s return to European competition for the first time since 1996—a feat achieved after Crystal Palace‘s relegation to the UEFA Conference League due to multi-club ownership regulations.

Looking Ahead

Postecoglou is anticipated to take charge of his first match as Forest’s manager against Arsenal this Saturday at the Emirates Stadium, as he seeks to steer the club through the challenges of the current Premier League campaign.
