André Onana Negotiating Loan Move to Trabzonspor from Manchester United

André Onana’s Potential Loan to Trabzonspor

André Onana, the goalkeeper currently with Manchester United, is reportedly in negotiations with Turkish club Trabzonspor regarding a potential loan arrangement. This information comes from sources who have spoken to ESPN, indicating that Trabzonspor has reached out to United to discuss the specifics of the deal.

Current Situation at Manchester United

Following the arrival of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Antwerp on transfer deadline day, Manchester United has shown openness to loaning out Onana, who remains under contract at the club until 2028.

Despite his eagerness to continue his career at Old Trafford this summer, Onana’s situation has been complicated due to a hamstring injury that caused him to miss the entire preseason. Consequently, he has been sidelined while watching Altay Bayindir take the starting position in all three of United’s Premier League matches so far. The signing of Lammens could further diminish Onana’s chances of reclaiming a regular starting role.

Manchester United’s Goalkeeper Lineup

Interestingly, United seems to feel secure with their current goalkeeper lineup, which includes Onana, Bayindir, Lammens, and veteran keeper Tom Heaton, who is now 39 years old. Additionally, Onana is expected to represent Cameroon in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, set to commence in December.

Trabzonspor’s Position

Trabzonspor, which finished seventh in the Turkish league last season, still has time to finalize this potential deal as the Turkish transfer window remains open until September 12. If Onana does make the switch, it would mark the end of a somewhat tumultuous two-year journey for him at Manchester United, a tenure that began when he joined in a deal worth approximately £43.8 million ($59.1 million) from Inter Milan in 2023.
