Ancelotti Clarifies: No Suggestion for Endrick to Leave Real Madrid

Brazil’s National Coach Addresses Endrick’s Future

In a recent statement, Brazil’s national coach Carlo Ancelotti clarified that he did not advise young forward Endrick to exit Real Madrid in order to secure a spot for the 2026 World Cup. Currently, the 19-year-old striker is expected to be loaned to Lyon in January, as confirmed by ESPN Brasil.

Loan Discussions and Playing Time

Discussions between Endrick, the new Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca, and the French club regarding a loan arrangement have been ongoing, with Lyon reportedly agreeing to cover half of his salary.

Endrick, who has experienced limited playing time—only 11 minutes this season—at Real Madrid, is actively seeking more first-team opportunities. Ancelotti emphasized Endrick’s potential, noting his importance to Brazilian football. He stated,

“We are assessing him. However, the notion that I instructed Endrick to leave Madrid in order to make the World Cup squad is false. His future is a matter to be discussed between him and the club.”

This was mentioned in an interview with Diario AS.

Endrick’s Journey and Future Prospects

The young talent joined Madrid shortly after turning 18 in July 2024 and had an impressive inaugural season, netting seven goals across 37 matches. However, his prospects for regular play have diminished since Xabi Alonso took the helm following Ancelotti’s departure in May. Consequently, Endrick has missed the last four national team call-ups since making his debut for Brazil in November 2023.

Ancelotti underlined the importance of Endrick returning to competitive play to demonstrate his abilities, mentioning their discussions from the start of the season when Endrick was recovering from an injury.

“He needs to collaborate with his team to evaluate the best path forward and engage with the club on his future,”

Ancelotti said. He also reassured that with his talent, Endrick still has opportunities for future World Cups, whether in 2026, 2030, or beyond. The coach remarked,

“At his age, this certainly won’t be his last chance to participate in such tournaments.”
