Amir Khan to Promote Major Boxing Event in Nigeria

Amir Khan, the former champion of the junior welterweight division, is set to spearhead a significant boxing event in Nigeria this October. The highlight of the card will feature cruiserweights Brandon Glanton and Rocky Fielding in the vibrant city of Lagos. At 38 years old, Khan has transitioned into event promotion following his last bout, where he faced a setback against Kell Brook in 2022.

Inspiring a New Generation

Khan expressed his excitement by stating,

“I’m thrilled to bring world-class boxing and the world’s eyes onto Nigeria for the first time.”

He emphasized that the event is not solely about the matches but also aims to inspire a new generation of athletes and highlight the talent of Nigerian boxers alongside international stars.

“Lagos is ready to shine,”

he added, underlining his commitment to elevating boxing in the region.

Significance of the Event

The main event of Glanton against Fielding is particularly special as it coincides with Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1st, marking it as the first significant boxing event to take place in the country. Additionally, British light heavyweight Dan Azeez, who boasts Nigerian roots with a professional record of 21 wins and 2 losses, will be competing on the undercard. Azeez expressed his enthusiasm about fighting in Nigeria:

“Fighting in Nigeria on Independence Day is a dream come true. This is for my heritage, my people, and my pride. I’m ready to put on a show and honor Nigeria with every punch I throw.”
