Ally Sentnor Joins Kansas City Current
Ally Sentnor, a forward for the United States women’s national soccer team (USWNT), has officially joined the Kansas City Current, who currently lead the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). This transfer marks a significant milestone, as the Utah Royals, her previous club, will receive a historic $600,000 in transfer fees, a record within the league for intra-league player transactions.
Transfer Details
Additional financial terms include a 20% sell-on provision, meaning that should Sentnor be sold again in the future, the Royals would receive a portion of that fee.
While Kansas City will not send any players back to Utah as part of the deal, the payments will be structured over several years. This approach allows both teams to manage the financial impact in accordance with the NWSL’s net transfer rules. Sources noted that the Royals had been considering trading Sentnor to various teams throughout the summer.
Sentnor’s Career Highlights
Sentnor was the top pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft, which was notably the last draft held before a new collective bargaining agreement eliminated such events. In her brief career with the Royals, she has netted one goal and one assist across 13 games this season, though the team has struggled, sitting at the bottom of the standings with only one win.
Contributions to USWNT
Despite the Royals’ positioning, Sentnor has made notable contributions to the USWNT, scoring 12 goals in just four appearances and earning the 2024 U.S. Young Female Player of the Year accolade.
Kansas City’s Ambitions
Kansas City, currently ahead of the Orlando Pride by eight points in the standings, has bolstered its already formidable offensive lineup with Sentnor’s addition, as the team aims for continued success this season.
