Alexia Putellas Declines PSG’s Lucrative Offer, Remains Committed to Barcelona

FC Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas Stays Despite PSG Interest

In a significant move for FC Barcelona, Alexia Putellas, the club’s esteemed midfielder and two-time Ballon d’Or winner, has opted to remain with the team despite receiving a lucrative offer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to ESPN. The French powerhouse sought to bolster their squad by proposing a multi-year agreement that included a considerable salary increase aimed at competing with the supremacy of Olympique Lyonnais in the Ligue 1.

Barcelona’s Stance on Putellas

Barça had previously indicated their unwillingness to entertain offers for Putellas, who rejoined the club from Levante in 2012 and has amassed over 450 appearances. Although PSG expressed readiness to activate her €1 million ($1.2 million) release clause to secure her services, Putellas reaffirmed her loyalty to Barcelona.

Current Contract and Team Dynamics

Currently, Putellas has a contract that runs until next summer with an option for extension until 2027. With the ongoing season already in progress, her potential departure could have dealt a serious setback to a Barcelona squad that has seen a significant reduction in player numbers, now fielding just 18 first-team members.

Recent Player Exits and Budgetary Strategies

This summer, the club has experienced a wave of exits, including players such as Fridolina Rolfö, Ingrid Engen, and Ellie Roebuck, with only Laia Aleixandri making a move to join the team. These transitions are reflective of Barcelona’s broader budgetary strategies, as they aim to cut costs while simultaneously preparing to renew contracts for key players set to expire soon, including Marta Torrejón, Mapi León, and others, all of whose agreements are up in 2026.
