Alessia Russo extends her stay at Arsenal with new long-term contract

Alessia Russo Signs Long-Term Agreement with Arsenal

Arsenal has officially confirmed that Alessia Russo has secured a new long-term agreement with the club, just before the commencement of the Women’s Super League (WSL) season. The announcement follows a remarkable period for the 26-year-old striker, who celebrated winning the Champions League title in May alongside her teammates as they triumphed over Barcelona in Lisbon. Moreover, she played a pivotal role for the England national team, helping defend their European Championship title under coach Sarina Wiegman.

Individual Accolades

Russo’s individual accolades have also been significant; she was honored as the Football Writers’ Player of the Year, earned spots in both the PFA Team of the Year and the Champions League Team of the Year, and received a nomination for the prestigious 2025 Ballon d’Or.

Russo’s Commitment to Arsenal

In her own words, Russo expressed her affection for the club, stating, “Arsenal feels like home. This is such a special club, and it has felt that way to me from the moment I joined two years ago. Playing for Arsenal is an honour and has pushed me to develop and grow as a player, and I feel empowered with this badge on my chest.”

She added, “I’m so proud of everything we’ve achieved together as a club, with our supporters driving us forward. But I’m still so hungry for more success, and I know that’s shared by everyone here at the club. I can’t wait to get started this season, starting with this Saturday at Emirates Stadium.”

Impact at Arsenal

Having switched from Manchester United to Arsenal in July 2023, Russo has made a significant impact, scoring 36 goals in 72 matches for the Gunners. She was recognized as a joint-winner of the WSL Golden Boot during the 2024-25 season after netting 12 goals.

Coach’s Praise

Coach Jonas Eidevall commented on Russo’s contribution, stating, “Alessia is a really important part of our group, and I’m so pleased that she has signed a new deal here. As a striker, Alessia’s goals often take the spotlight – but she brings so much more to our group. She’s a selfless player, working so hard for the team, and she also contributes significantly to our team culture. I’m looking forward to striving for more together.”

Upcoming Matches

Arsenal will begin their WSL journey this Saturday when they face the newly promoted London City Lionesses, who have made headlines with significant spending ahead of their debut season.
