Albertin Montoya to Depart Bay FC

The head coach of Bay FC, Albertin Montoya, is poised to depart from his role at the conclusion of the current season, as disclosed by the club on Monday. Montoya, who was appointed the coach of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) expansion team in 2023, played a pivotal role in leading the franchise through its inaugural years.

Achievements Under Montoya

Under his stewardship, the team achieved significant milestones, notably making it to the playoffs in 2024, after recording an impressive 11 victories during its first season—setting a benchmark for expansion clubs in the league.

In a heartfelt message, Montoya expressed his deep appreciation for the players, coaching staff, and fans, stating, “I have so much love for these players, staff, and fans. We’ve built a culture and a style of play that I believe will compete for championships for years to come. I want to thank everyone at the Bay FC organization for their support. I look forward to finishing this season strong and for this club continuing to accomplish great things.”

Current Season Status

Despite these accomplishments, Bay FC currently finds itself in the 12th position among 14 teams in the league, trailing nine points behind the playoff threshold with only seven matches left in the season.

Future Leadership

In light of Montoya’s departure, the club announced that Kay Cossington will be taking charge of the sporting operations moving forward, working closely with sporting director Matt Potter to identify a new head coach for the upcoming 2026 season and beyond. Cossington remarked,

“Right out of the gate, Bay FC has shown it belongs on the biggest stage. Thanks to Albertin and the sporting staff’s efforts, Bay FC has established a strong foundation on the pitch, and I’m excited to help elevate the club further and put Bay FC in the best position to compete at the highest level for years to come.”
