NBC Sports revealed on Tuesday that Ahmed Fareed will take on the role of host for its Monday night NBA programming on the Peacock streaming service, which is part of NBCUniversal. Additionally, he has been appointed as the new host for the Big Ten College Countdown show.
Fareed expressed his enthusiasm regarding his new roles, stating, “College football under the lights is sacred, and we’ve got the crew to match its energy. Plus, helping shape our NBA coverage in its return to NBC Sports? I can’t wait to start. I’m thankful to be trusted with these roles. I’m even more motivated by the responsibility that comes with them.”
Fareed’s Versatility and Recent Highlights
Fareed’s versatility has been showcased through his participation in NBC’s coverage of the Olympics, Premier League soccer, and Major League Baseball. He recently rose to prominence as the primary host of the 151st Kentucky Derby, stepping in for Mike Tirico, who faced a sudden allergic reaction during the broadcast.
New NBA Coverage Agreement
This shift in coverage comes on the heels of an 11-year partnership struck between NBCUniversal and the NBA last July. This agreement will kick off the broadcasting of NBA and WNBA regular-season matches and playoffs in the 2025-26 season.
