Celebrating a Milestone
The excitement of making one’s professional debut cannot be overstated, especially when it takes place in a prestigious venue like Madison Square Garden. For 18-year-old Adam Maca, a rising star in the junior featherweight category, this moment is more than just a fight—it’s a milestone he has long anticipated.
Securing the Opportunity
Maca is set to face Rafael Castillo on the undercard of Richardson Hitchins’ IBF junior welterweight title fight against George Kambosos Jr. He shared his enthusiasm with ESPN about securing this significant opportunity.
“My manager, Sam Jones, insisted we would make a debut at MSG, and it’s even written into our contract with Matchroom,”
Maca explained. The excitement became tangible when promotional materials for the bout were released, making the event feel more concrete once travel arrangements were made.
A Journey to New York
Previously sought after by several promoters, it was Matchroom’s commitment to taking him to New York that ultimately captured Maca’s attention. Speaking of his journey and the flurry of activity leading up to the bout, he stated,
“It’s been a whirlwind week. The energy around the venue is electrifying; it’s not just about boxing but encompasses the spirit of all sports. People describe it as ‘the world’s most famous arena.’ To have my first fight there is just incredible.”
Passion for Boxing
Maca, who hails from Brighton and has roots in both Albania and Yemen, is eager to make a mark in the professional boxing world. Having accumulated several domestic titles as an amateur, he was resolute about turning pro.
“Since my childhood, I dreamed of becoming a pro boxer. As I approached my 18th birthday, those thoughts intensified—I couldn’t wait to step into the ring as a professional. There was never any doubt in my mind about pursuing this path,”
he remarked, highlighting his passion and dedication to the sport.
