Aaron Ramsey takes his talents to Pumas in Liga MX after leaving Cardiff City

Aaron Ramsey Joins Pumas

Aaron Ramsey, a seasoned midfielder with experience at top clubs including Arsenal, Juventus, and Cardiff City, has embarked on a new chapter in his career by signing with the Mexican club Pumas of Liga MX. The 34-year-old Welsh international’s move was confirmed on Thursday by the team, following his arrival in Mexico City earlier in the week to undergo a medical examination as part of the signing process.

Ramsey’s Enthusiasm

Speaking to reporters at the airport in Mexico City, Ramsey expressed his enthusiasm about joining Pumas, one of Mexico’s most storied football clubs, stating:

“I’m excited to play and to be a part of this historic club. I can’t wait to be on the pitch.”

Despite Pumas’s rich history and status as one of the traditional “big four” in Mexican football, the club has not claimed a league title since the Clausura 2011 season. Last season, Pumas struggled, finishing 10th in the latest Clausura standings and being eliminated early in the playoff rounds.

Transfer Details

Before officially joining Pumas, Ramsey already possessed a working visa, facilitating his transfer to Liga MX. His arrival in Mexico comes after a June report indicated that negotiations between him and Pumas were progressing well. The club’s head coach, Efraín Juárez, who shares the same agency representation with Ramsey, played a significant role in ensuring the move materialized.

Career Highlights

Ramsey recently concluded a stint as interim manager at Cardiff City, where he faced challenges as the club was relegated from the Championship to League One. With 86 caps for Wales, he was instrumental in leading the national team to the Euro 2016 semifinals. The midfielder previously emphasized the importance of staying fit and competitive ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Upcoming Competitions

In addition to competing in Liga MX, starting in July, Ramsey’s new team will participate in the Leagues Cup, a tournament merging Liga MX and Major League Soccer (MLS) competitors, where he is scheduled to play against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami CF on August 6.
