Injury Update on Aaron Nesmith
In a recent announcement, Rick Carlisle, the head coach of the Indiana Pacers, revealed that forward Aaron Nesmith is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of four weeks due to a left knee injury sustained during a loss against the Phoenix Suns last Thursday.
Coach’s Optimism
Prior to the Pacers’ matchup with the Toronto Raptors on Saturday, Carlisle provided an update on Nesmith’s condition, expressing optimism despite the setback.
“It’s likely going to be at least four weeks… but the news is very encouraging,”
he said.
“He’s able to walk and isn’t in a brace, which is a good sign. We’ll know more by December 15, but he seems to be doing very well,”
Carlisle added.
Impact on the Team
Nesmith’s absence adds to the Pacers’ injury woes as they are already down several key players. Among them is All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton, who suffered a season-ending torn Achilles tendon during the NBA Finals Game 7. Additionally, forward Bennedict Mathurin, who recently scored 31 points over two games, is also sidelined due to a toe issue. Shooting guard Andrew Nembhard has just returned from a six-game absence caused by a shoulder injury, while Obi Toppin, one of the team’s top reserves, has been ruled out with a stress fracture in his right foot.
Nesmith’s Performance Before Injury
Before his injury, Aaron Nesmith was enjoying a breakout season, posting an average of 15.5 points and 4.5 rebounds over 11 games. He notably achieved a personal milestone by scoring a career-high 31 points in the Pacers’ lone victory against the Golden State Warriors on November 1.
Current Team Challenges
With a current record of 1-11, the Pacers face significant roster challenges as they aim to turn their season around.
