Jahmal Harvey Signs with Most Valuable Promotions
Jahmal Harvey, a prominent figure in American amateur boxing and a participant in the upcoming 2024 Olympics, has inked a deal with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), the organization co-founded by Jake Paul. This announcement came from MVP on Wednesday, marking a significant step in Harvey’s boxing career as he transitions from the amateur ranks to the professional arena.
Impressive Track Record
At just 22 years old, Harvey has already established an impressive record, holding the title of a 10-time U.S. national champion and reaching the quarterfinals in the Olympic boxing trials. His prowess in the ring places him among the top talents within MVP’s growing lineup, which features other distinguished boxers like Canadian Olympian Tamm Thibeault, 19-time U.S. National champion Sa’Rai Brown-El, and two-time U.S. national champion Alex Gueche.
Future Prospects
MVP’s co-founder, Nakisa Bidarian, expressed high hopes for Harvey’s future, stating, “We believe Jahmal Harvey can become one of the biggest faces in boxing both in and out of the ring.” Bidarian noted that Harvey had been identified as a prime candidate for MVP since December 2023, following Jake Paul’s collaboration with Team USA Boxing to scout potential professional boxers.
“Jahmal was our top target following the Olympics, and once we learned he was ready to turn pro, we focused on making this deal happen,” Bidarian added.
Upcoming Debut
Harvey’s professional debut is set for August 22, where he will face off against Marcelo Del Aguila from Peru, who brings a 5-1 record with one knockout, during the Most Valuable Prospects 14 event at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.
Support from Jake Paul
Jake Paul, who has taken a keen interest in boxing’s next generation, has shared his impressions of Harvey, stating, “It is an honor to now welcome him to the team, and I can’t wait to see him put the super featherweight division on notice.”
Historic Achievements
In 2021, Harvey made history as the first American male to earn a gold medal at the IBA World Boxing Championships since Demetrius Andrade in 2007. Although he reached the quarterfinal stage in the featherweight division at the recent championships, he fell short of medaling.
Looking Ahead
With an amateur record standing at 61 wins and 8 losses, Harvey is optimistic about his future in boxing. He mentioned, “I’m signing with Most Valuable Promotions because I believe it’s the best fit for me to become MVP of the sport. Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian are changing the game and putting athletes on the biggest stages, and I’m excited to be part of it.”
