Death Threats Against Álvaro Morata
A young man, aged 19, is facing legal consequences after he allegedly issued death threats online towards Spanish footballer Álvaro Morata and his family. This behavior followed Morata’s penalty miss during the UEFA Nations League final against Portugal on June 8, where Spain ultimately lost 5-3 in a penalty shootout.
Response from Family and Law Enforcement
In the wake of this traumatic experience, Morata’s wife, Alice Campello, publicly addressed the vile comments and harassment they received online, sharing some of the cruel messages. Law enforcement authorities in Málaga confirmed on Tuesday that they apprehended the suspect after he admitted to being behind the threatening remarks on social media. Initially, the individual tried to evade responsibility by claiming that his account had been hacked; however, discrepancies in his account and further investigations by cybercrime specialists led to his confession.
“Our inquiries revealed the suspect’s attempts to fabricate an alibi for himself,”
the police highlighted in a statement.
Morata’s Reflection on the Penalty Miss
Meanwhile, Morata, currently on loan from AC Milan to Galatasaray, has expressed uncertainty about his future with the national team after the match, stating,
“I may not return in September for the World Cup qualifiers.”
Reflecting on his penalty miss, he added,
“I feel bad for my teammates, but it’s part of life. I didn’t execute the penalty well; I could have performed better, but now I must move on.”
Morata’s Career Overview
At 32 years old, Morata has a commendable record, netting 37 goals in 86 matches for Spain. He has led the national team to victorious campaigns including the Nations League title and anticipated success at Euro 2024.
